Town of Bluff October 2018 Newsletter

Town creation is an intensive process.
The real world intersects with statutory requirements and things are going well.

  • The Council has adopted Rules of Procedures, Conduct, and Procurements.
  • The Mayor has had countless meetings with County, State, and Bluff folks.
  • Bluff has joined the Utah League of Cities and Towns. (ULCT)
  • The Mayor and Council are working on the County Interlocal Agreement.
  • The Roads Committee met with UDOT at the Bluff Shed, and talked about partnerships available to small towns.
  • The Council wrote a letter to San Juan County asking NOT to close the Bluff dump.
  • Town Insurances services has been secured including workman’s comp.
  • The Public Safety Committee confirmed that Fire, EMS, and Sheriff services will not change.
  • Utah State University’s Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning Department is looking to partner with Bluff in town planning and design.
  • Sean Michael, Chair of the LAEP department, and his Staff reached out to Bluff for possible planning collaborations.
  • The General Plan Committee submitted a Draft General Plan to the Council.
  • Design Build Bluff is eager to remain vital to Bluff’s collaboration success.
  • The Council formed the Town of Bluff Planning Commission at its last meeting.
  • The Planning Commission will have 5 members, and 2 alternates for a total of 7 members.
  • Applications for appointment to the Commission will be solicited town wide in the next few weeks.
  • The current Planning and Zoning Committee is paring down a proposed draft ordinance. They have spent the last 6 months studying other Utah small towns, (Torrey, Boulder, Springdale). Public hearings for the zoning commission will likely be in November or December.
    Zion’s Bank will be our town banking service.
    The Mayor presented a 2018-19 proposed Town Budget.
    The public hearing for the proposed 2018-19 Bluff budget is November 13, at 5 p.m. at the Community Center.

Bluff has an energetic group of dedicated citizens working hard to build our little town. We’ve had people from all over the world add their expertise and resources.
